  • Water Street Improvements Begin Monday

    May 6, 2016 - Construction work on Water Street is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 9, from Villa Street south to Cumberland, and is expected to last up to four days.

    Improvements include milling and paving as well as manhole, valve and catch basin leveling.

  • Owner Ticketed For Smoke and CO Alarm Violations (1)

    May 5, 2016 - The owner of a Blucher Avenue rental property has been ticketed for failing to maintain a smoke alarm and also for failing to install a carbon monoxide alarm where required. Each ticket carries a fine of $360.

  • Jane's Walk Festival Celebrates Safe, Inclusive Neighbourhoods

    May 3, 2016 - This coming weekend, Thunder Bay residents will take to the streets to participate in Thunder Bay's 6th Annual Annual Jane's Walk Festival. Local volunteers will be leading nine free neighbourhood walks to inspire citizens to get to know their City and each other.

  • City Kicks Off National Youth Week and Youth Arts Week

    May 3, 2016 -Mayor Keith Hobbs, along with local youth from Sir Winston Churchill school, officially proclaimed May 1-7 as Youth Week and raised the official flag today at City Hall to kick-off the celebrations.

    National Youth Week celebrates the positive contributions that youth make to their communities, their achievements, and their volunteerism.

  • Flag Recognizes Traditional Lands of Fort William First Nation

    May 2, 2016 - The Fort William First Nation flag was raised at City Hall today in a ceremony recognizing that Thunder Bay resides in the Robinson Superior Treaty and has been built on the traditional lands of the Ojibwa people of Fort William First Nation.

    City Council approved the addition of the flag on April 25 to fly permanently alongside the Canadian, Ontario and Thunder Bay flags in front of City Hall.

  • Kashechewan Evacuees Settling In Thunder Bay

    May 2, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay welcomed just over 300 evacuees on Sunday, as planned, from flood-threatened Kashechewan First Nation locate near James Bay.
     
    "The final plane arrived Sunday evening and our guests have settled in to their accommodations," said Dave Paxton, Deputy Fire Chief.

  • Thunder Bay Preparing to Host 300 Kashechewan Evacuees

    April 29, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay is preparing to receive 300 people as early as Sunday from Kashechewan First Nation, which has declared a state of emergency due to potential for flooding.
     
    The City's response is a coordinated effort in partnership with the Canadian Red Cross, Aboriginal Affairs Northern Development Canada, Community Care Access Centre, Local Health Integration Network, and the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management Ontario (OFMEM).

    April 29, 2016 - The second installment of the 2016 tax bill is due on Wednesday, May 4. The interim tax billing is based on 50 per cent of your 2015 tax rate and 2015 assessment.

  • Building Owner Found Guilty for Failing to Comply with Inspection Orders and Fire Code Charges

    April 28, 2016 - An Ambrose Street property owner was found guilty in Provincial Court Wednesday on two charges for failing to comply with an Inspection Order written by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue. In addition, the owner was found guilty of 14 additional fire code violations.

  • Discontinuation of Landfill Free Week Encourages Alternate Forms of Waste Disposal

    April 26, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay will discontinue the annual Free Week at the Solid Waste & Recycling Facility in May as part of a recommended action item in the Solid Waste Management Strategy.

    "The City is continuing to make progress in advancing the recommendations in the Solid Waste Management Strategy," said Jason Sherband, Manager - Solid Waste & Recycling Services.
